My third post on this blog will be the most informative due to our SGA Executive Board having a meeting last night and a petition revolving around Hood regarding dining services.
Our meeting last night started at 9 p.m. and lasted nearly two hours…topics such as Holiday Dinner, SGA Opening Ceremony, school budget, elections, Policies for Dollars, and of course, dining services were all chatted about. I will touch on each of those and what is exactly going on.
Holiday Dinner: The Holiday Dinner is a tradition that will occur on the first Wednesday of December (the 7th). This was scheduled in Hood planners in late November, but we have decied to change it due to it being too close to Thanksgiving Dinner. Jennifer Bentz, SGA Secretary, is in charge of all Traditions. If you have any comments about the menu or anything, contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org
SGA Opening Ceremony: This will take place this upcoming Tuesday, September 13th at 1 p.m. in Whitaker Campus Commons. Presidenet Volpe, Dean White, and myself will be speaking about ideas that we have for the students this year, and I would love to hear from you at this event.
School Budget: Our Treasurer, Tyler Fairley, has set up a meeting with Chuck Mann, who is Vice President for Finance, to talk to the students about the school budget. This will include information on where money is being spent. If you aren’t happy with the college’s spending, this is something to go to on October 13th at 9 p.m. in Hodson 131. He will answer all questions and take input from the students.
Elections: The Class of 2015 elections finished up today at 5 p.m. and the votes are being counted. If you wish to be part of the SGA Senate, you can send an email to Vice President Ethan Weidman at email@example.com.
Policies for Dollars: ‘Policies’ is in the beginning of October and House Forum, which is a part of SGA, is working hard on this event. Some changes are being made to the scoring system of Policies. Mandy Smith, our Commuter Council Executive Representative, said that Commuters will be participating for the first time in Policies…an exciting time for them.
Dining Services: The no-doubt-about-it Hot Topic on campus right now, there are many issues on this front. A petition has been signed by 179 people, which was coordinated by Lindsay Cogdill. The petition is to change the Meals To Go program back to being available at dinner time. More issues include the guest policy, one swipe per meal time policy, and no to-go boxes in The Blazer. Because of this, SGA will be holding a ‘HOT TOPIC’ on September 20th at 1 p.m. in Whitaker Campus Commons. All persons involved in the dining hall services department will be present to listen and answer questions. We hope for a HUGE turnout at this event due to the number of upset students. During the next week, a booth will be in Whitaker asking for your input on dining services this year. Please stop by and let us know.
Lots of good stuff is going on in SGA. Our mission statement reads: We, the HCSGA, will listen to and advocate for students in order to bring a positive wave of change to Hood College.
Who’s coming to one of the upcoming events? Leave a comment and let me know.
Now is the time for change to happen. Until Wednesday…Speak Up Hood College, SGA Has Your Back.
